Great Ocean Road and the Grampians Tour (Day 1)

After spending almost full 23 hours in wonderful Melbourne I was on the road again. Melbourne itself is a nice city and I really enjoyed my short time there. Somehow I did an error with staying in Sydney so long and not taking the opportunity to go to Melbourne earlier.

To bad. Shit happens. Moving on to greener pastures.

I booked a package with Groovy Grape Getaways. The first part was the three days tour Great Ocean Road and the Grampians. It starts in Melbourne goes up the coast via the Great Ocean Road and the Grampians to Adelaide. They specialize in all-inclusive small groups tours.

Our group had strange composition. One way to look at it is:

5x Germany
4x UK
2x France
1x Denmark
1x US

The other way is really cool:
3 Guys. 10 Girls. And like one girl said: all in the same age range (18-35).

Our guide was Brian. He is a really good guide and driver, even when the bus was showing strange behavior like jumping on the road and not being able to drive with a closed door.

Nevertheless on our first day the tour started at 7 o'clock in Melbourne. After driving a while we reached Torquay where Brian made the first stop. He went buying lunch and dinner while we had a coffee and went looking at the displays of the surf shops.

After leaving Torquay our first real sightseeing stop came up. Bells Beach.

It is a surfers beach. Cold Indian Ocean Water with great waves. We moved on the great ocean road till we reached hour lunch spot in Wye River.

Cool little creatures. I like them.

The weather was not that great when we reached Loch Ard in the late afternoon where we were doing two short walks, but still breathtaking scenery.

Like always at the coast the weather got better really fast.

After the two walks we went to the Twelve Apostle to watch the sunset. We would return to Loch Ard the second day to do the rest of the walks.

To bad the sunset was behind some clouds and those clouds prevented me from shooting pictures with the nice evening light of a sunset.

Our day came to an end in a hostel in Princetown. We where eating Pasta and watching a movie called The Boat that rocked. Funny movie. But the selection process was really a matter of time.
